Miso Soup

Step 1: Purchase miso paste at the store. There are different flavors of miso, and it doesn't matter which one you buy. I currently own a small tub of barley miso, and I'm pretty happy with it.

Step 2: Make broth by simmering a carrot broken into a few pieces, two unpeeled garlic cloves, a thumb of fresh unpeeled ginger and red pepper flakes in cold water over low heat for about 20 minutes.

Step 3: Fish out chunks and melt one tablespoon of miso in the hot broth per bowl.

Bonus: dumpster diving in your own home
